Sorcery Goldfish Playtest

This is a Goldfish playtest where you can practice your deck's curve, thresholds, and draw consistency without an opponent. No card effects or combat are implemented.

Setup

Draw 3 from Spellbook + 3 from Atlas. You may take one mulligan before your first turn: return up to 3 cards to the bottom of their respective decks (in any order), then redraw the same number from each deck.

Turn Structure

  • Start Phase: Untap (N/A in goldfish), sites provide mana, draw 1 from Spellbook or Atlas (skip on first player's turn 1)
  • Main Phase: Play Sites (expand your domain) and cast Spells (pay mana + meet elemental threshold)
  • End Phase: End your turn

Resources

  • Mana: Each Site you control provides 1 mana. Mana resets each turn.
  • Threshold: Sites grant elemental affinity (Air/Earth/Fire/Water). You need at least as much affinity as a spell's threshold to cast it.

Playing Cards

  • Play a Site: Uses your Avatar's ability (no mana cost). On your first Main phase you must establish your domain by playing a site. Sites provide 1 mana each and elemental threshold.
  • Cast Spells: Minions, Auras, Artifacts, Magics: pay cost and meet threshold. Magics resolve and go to Cemetery.

Sorcery: Contested Realm

Constructed: exactly 1 Avatar, at least 60 Spellbook (spells), at least 30 Atlas (sites). Players start at 20 life. The realm is a 5×4 grid (not shown in this goldfish).

Setup

Draw 3 from Atlas + 3 from Spellbook. One mulligan allowed: return up to 3 to bottom of respective decks (any order), redraw the same number from each deck.

Zones

  • Spellbook: Your spell deck (minions, magics, auras, artifacts)
  • Atlas: Your site deck
  • Cemetery: Discarded, destroyed, resolved cards (face-up, order irrelevant)

Turn Phases

  1. Start: Untap all; sites provide mana; trigger “at start of turn” abilities; draw 1 from Spellbook or Atlas (skip if first player’s turn 1)
  2. Main: Play sites (Avatar’s ability), cast spells, activate abilities
  3. End: Trigger “at end of turn”; remove damage from minions; effects lasting “your turn” end

Establishing Your Domain

On your first Main phase, you must use your Avatar’s ability to play a site to your Avatar’s square. Sites are played on void/rubble, adjacent to a site you control (or at your Avatar if you have none).

Resources

  • Mana: Each site provides 1. New sites provide mana immediately. Unspent mana is lost at end of turn.
  • Threshold: Sites grant elemental affinity (Air, Earth, Fire, Water). Spells require minimum affinity; threshold is not spent. Artifacts typically have no threshold.
